Don't really know why (maybe because I write on the 'net) but sometimes, someone find me and write me some mail probing for informations about work. I keep telling everybody that the smartest thing to do is to run a nice search using your preferred search enging but...
Anyhow, today I get this nice mail about this guy that begin with the usual round that I'm super expert, and I know everything and yada yada yada and then it goes:
I'm thinking about going to work in Germany and my father-in-law, that is german, is trying to help, but he has some trouble with the terms, for example he has no idea what differences there are between a "System Architect" and a "Software Developer", and I can't explain it to him.
Ok, I read and I think.
Let's suppose that you have a high-school diploma or a university degree, so you're between 20 and 30 years old. Your in-laws should be, unless you married a 50-years old billionairs (in this case, why the heck are you working?), about 20 years older than you are. So he should be around 50 years old, this means that he was 20-30 years old during the '80s, the "golden age" of ICT.
Now, assuming he wasn't employed as coal shovel in a Ruhr mine, he should have had enough "contact" with technology to be able to tell an architect from a plumber.
Of course is always possible that he didn't gave a fsck about it. I mean, my poor dad never learned how to program the VCR...
Anyhow, you that obviously want to work in the field, are supposed to know the differences and to be able to explain it to a "layman" without too many trouble. Since I don't speak german, I suppose you want to know it from me in italian.
And in the end I remain thinking... Maybe, but just maybe, you're shooting to a target that is waaaaaayyyy out of your league?
